A campaign against the FGM or the Female Genital Mutilation was started by a supermodel named Waris Dirie. She had experienced the terror of having to go through the FGM.
Female Genital Mutilation is one of the sickest and most gruesome tradition in Africa. It is an unhygienic and non-medical act, where an older woman called the 'woman cutter' would perform the removal of the clitoris, removal of the labia and trying to narrow the opening of the female organ.
The act happens when the teenage girl is being dragged to the location of the woman cutter by her parents and relatives. Then they would hold her down until the woman cutter finishes the operation. It is done without any anesthesia so the pain that the woman is dealing with is excruciating.
When the process is done, the woman will be brought home by her parents and if anything happens to her the one to blame is the mother.
